2023 Beechworth Pinot Noir
2023 Beechworth Pinot Noir
Our second vintage for this wine. Part of our new-ish high-altitude Beechworth range. An earlier-drinking blend comprised of sites across Beechworth, predominantly from our new high-altitude Palmer vineyard in the heart of Stanley. With selections from Brunnen and Indigo vineyards providing a lovely combination of spice and plush red fruit.
A cool, and wet growing season, with ample time for flavour development. Whole berry ferment with gentle maceration, this wine is concentrated and complex yet shows the bright acidity and delicacy of high-altitude Pinot Noir. Savoury spice and tart red fruit softened by a subtle 15% new oak component.

“As always, a strong show of red fruit, delicate and lifted, in cherry, plum and spice with just a splash of new oak (25%) to bring it all together. A blend of fruit off the Palmer and Brunnen vineyards, the cold, late vintage has produced a lighter-framed pinot, lean, subtle and fine-tannined, but there's an energy that is undeniable. It's worth tuning into.” Awarded 94 points by Jeni Port, for Halliday Wine Companion.
“A blend of fruit from the Palmer and Brunnen vineyards with 25% new oak in a four barrel blend. Sweet raspberry coulis followed by macerated strawberry straight up aromatically, with red cherry and nutmeg thereafter. The sweet coulis note sinks into the red fruits as well as delicate clove and river stone minerality after a good swirl of the glass. It threatens to descend into some deeper savouriness with a glimmer of au jus, but at its core this is pure and hightoned, with the emphasis on fragrant, pretty red fruits. The palate follows suit, with a display of taut, lifted raspberry and cinnamon glazed strawberry with a mineral underlay. There's a thin vein of gossamer tannins and clean acidity to frame it all to a delicate finish. The 2023 vintage was tough on Pinot Noir, and yet VS&B have crafted a pure, bright and graceful expression.” Awarded 92 points by Tom Kline, for Wine Pilot.
“Pale red, bright and lively in the glass. Aromas of earth, spice, dark cherry, raspberry, under-brush and some bunchy lift. Textured, layered and mouth-filling. There's a lovely core of creamy red fruits along with sap, dried herbs, briar and nutty oak. Long and complex.” Awarded 91 points by Aaron Brasher, for The Real Review.
